Ferrari’s 400i was introduced in 1979 as the successor to the 400. The “i” suffix signified the car’s Bosh K-Jetronic fuel-injection system, which replaced the triple Weber carburetors found in the earlier model. Ferrari produced the 400i in two variants, like the original 400. These were the 400 GTi, which boasted a five-speed manual transmission, and the 400i Automatic, which was equipped with a three-speed automatic.
An ideally practical Ferrari grand tourer, this low mileage example was imported by Lamborghini of North America in White over supple Dark Blue leather upholstery and carpeting, furnished with all power equipment and the highly desired manual transmission. The car has been a lifelong California resident, as confirmed by a clean CarFax and registration slips as well as its BAR Certification Stickers. It shows well as a pampered driver with glossy paint, beautifully mellowed leather and excellent carpets. Impeccable Chromodora wheels with mounted Michelin X tires compliment. The trunk and engine compartments are very nicely detailed and show well additionally the PininFarina body # 021 is found stamped on both the hood and trunk bonnets.
Importantly, this car comes with a full set of books and manuals in in original pouch, a factory tool kit, and its original jack in leather roll. The 400i has always had a keen following of enthusiasts looking for understated luxury combined with traditional Ferrari V-12 power. A wonderful highway-cruiser or ready for a quick sprint through the gears, this example has a particularly comfortable feel when driving.
For those looking to own a 400 which offers many creature comforts along with Ferrari’s powerful V12 power plant we strongly recommend close attention to this great example.
